Manipulative techniques of propaganda in the age of the Internet

The joint project of researchers from FSS MU, FI, MU and PrF MU "Manipulative techniques of propaganda in the age of the Internet" responds to current issues of spreading political propaganda of foreign actors through new media and social networks in the Czech Republic. This phenomenon brings challenges for methodological, security and legal research and thus provides an opportunity to create a unique research team. In the case of the pro-Russian information war, the project develops methods of recognition, detection and analysis of manipulative propaganda techniques, analyzes users sharing manipulative content in terms of their motivation and assesses security risks for the Czech Republic resulting from the dissemination of manipulative content, including evaluation of possible legislative consequences of manipulative techniques. propaganda.

The project is divided into two areas of research according to the type of media. The first area deals with quantitative sentiment analysis and manipulative techniques of pro-Russian news servers. The second area is the analysis of activities and motivations of users of the social network Facebook, who participate in the dissemination of manipulative content.

The output of the project will be analytical software for the detection of manipulative techniques in the text and at least six professional publications devoted to the methodological approach to the analysis of manipulative propaganda techniques, analysis of manipulative techniques on pro-Russian news servers, analysis of users and distributors of manipulative content on social networks, legal analysis of the consequences of manipulative contents and security aspects of this issue for the Czech Republic.
