Getting a route

http://modrana.org/misc/tbt_images/tbt1.png
Go to the menu by clicking on the "menu" button.

http://modrana.org/misc/tbt_images/tbt2.png
Now go to the routing submenu by clicking on the "route" button.

http://modrana.org/misc/tbt_images/tbt3.png
We will use the "Point to Here, Here to Point" mode in this example, which finds a route to and from our current position. It is of course possible to use turn-by-turn navigation for routes obtained by using other modes.

Clicking on the "end" button enables the destination entry.

http://modrana.org/misc/tbt_images/tbt5.png
Once the button turns green, you can add the destination point by simply clicking on the map.

Green marker on the map represents the destination. Clicking on the "route" button triggers routing between our current position and the destination.

Turn-by-turn activation

Blue line represents the route, yellow points mark turns, lane changes, etc. Click on the "route info" route info button to enter the information submenu for the current route.

This menu shows information about the current route. Click on the "tools" to enter the route tools submenu.

http://modrana.org/misc/tbt_images/tbt9.png
Click on "start navigation".

http://modrana.org/misc/tbt_images/tbt10.png
Now select from which point of the route should the navigation start. We will use "closest step" in our example, that means that the navigation will start from the point, that is closest to our current position.

Congratulations, you have just successfully activated turn-by-turn navigation in modRana!

Notes

How to use turn-by-turn navigation in modRana

Blue line marks the route, yellow points mark turns. Small red circle marks the next turn, current routing message also always relates to next turn. You have to "reach" the red circled point, so that navigation can switch to the following turn. "Reaching" a point means reaching a given minimal distance from this point, this distance is by default set to 30 m and can be configured in options->navigation->point reached distance.

Rerouting

To get a new route from current position to the current destination, just click on the routing message box.

Rerouting is currently a bit problematic during fast movement, as there is slight delay between requesting and getting a track. It is therefore possible that when modRana finally get the track, you are already outside of the "reach" distance of the first point. A fix for this (based on the direction of travel and interpolated closest point is currently in planning stages).

Voice navigation

Voice navigation activates twice for each point. First, there is "heads up" message "in X km/miles" + "do Y" some distance before the turn and then a second "do Y" message after reaching the "reach" distance. There is currently only the english intonation used, which can be problematic for non-English local names. Using local version of routing directions is planed and should eliminate this issue.

How to deactivate turn-by-turn navigation

Use: current route->tools->stop navigation
